I can

I had a lovely day out in Manchester yesterday (OK, it was overcast but it didn't rain!). I wrote about it in my Soccer Special blog this morning.

I went to watch a football match with one of my oldest friends, his father and his son. His father is 77 years old and recovering from prostate cancer. He is a bit deaf and understandably he can't move very fast. However, he jumped at the offer of joining us on a three hundred mile round trip and the opportunity to watch some live football and spend the day with his family. I was privileged to join them.

My own father was 84 yesterday and never took any interest in football. We never had days out like yesterday and his attitude has been much more one of 'I can't' rather than 'I can.' I want to be the father that continues to want to spend time with his family and I hope I might still be enjoying watching football with my own children when I'm 77 years old.
